Reappointment / Appointment to the Climate Change Commission

1 December 2022

The recent appointment round for Commissioners to the Board of the Climate Change Commission has been completed, with the Gazetting of these (re)appointments taking place today.

Her Excellency The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro has reappointed Dr Judy Lawrence for her second term, and appointed Distinguished Professor Steven Ratuva for his first term.

Professor Ratuva is Director of the University of Canterbury Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies, and Chair of the International Political Science Association research committee on Security, Conflict and Democratization. I am confident that Professor Ratuva will bring valuable expertise to the Commission, and will ensure that the Board and the Commission are well supported to continue delivery of the important mahi ahead of us.

Professor Nicola Shadbolt will be stepping down from her role as Commissioner. Professor Shadbolt has had a significant impact on the work of the Commission, and her expertise and experience has helped shape the high quality advice the Commission has released to date. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her valuable contribution and wish her well for future endeavours.

More information about the appointment process is available on the Ministry for the Environment website.
