Letter: Consultations on New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme

Our letter to the Ministry for the Environment on their consultations on the NZ ETS (15 September 2021)

On 15 September 2021, we wrote to the Ministry for the Environment about their consultations on designing a market governance framework, and reforming industrial allocation in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS). This work aligned with our role in monitoring emissions budgets and the adequacy of the emissions reduction plan.  

We did not provide a detailed written submission to these two consultations. This reflected the fact that we had only recently provided our advice on the emissions reduction plan, that our role is at the level of advising on the direction of policy, and the need for us to focus on other priorities in our work programme. Instead, we raised two practical considerations that intersect directly with how we undertake our work.
