2024 review of the 2050 emissions target

This is our first review of Aotearoa New Zealand’s 2050 emissions target.

Overview

To ensure that the 2050 target remains fit for purpose, the Commission is required to review it every five years and provide independent expert advice to the government of the day on whether any changes should be made.

We are currently working on our first such review. Consultation on our discussion document for this review took place between 8 April and 31 May 2024. For supporting material, see: Modelling and data: Consultation on emissions reduction target and emissions budgets. A technical annex for this draft advice is also available: Technical Annex: Modelling and analysis [PDF – 1.26 MB]
