Upcoming advice release, consultation and online events

Consultation on the Climate Change Commission’s first draft advice to Government will open on Monday 1 February.

Consultation on the Climate Change Commission’s first draft advice to Government will open on Monday 1 February.

A full copy of the advice will be available on our website at 2pm on Sunday 31 January, the day before consultation opens.

From 1 February, our consultation will be live on haveyoursay.climatecommission.govt.nz Consultation will run for six weeks, through to 28 March.

To introduce our advice and what it could mean for New Zealanders, our Chair Dr Rod Carr will host a public webinar 7-8pm on Sunday 31 January. This is open to anyone who would like to know more. You can register for this event here.

To help you understand different aspects of our work, we will be continuing our open Zoom series and running several public online events during consultation. Keep an eye on our events page to register for upcoming events.

We are looking forward to sharing our work with you. It’s important to note that this is our draft advice. We are prepared to make changes based on the submissions we receive.

Following consultation, we will incorporate feedback before finalising the advice and presenting it to the Government by 31 May.

The Government will have until 31 December to decide whether to accept our recommendations. If it chooses not to take on the Commission’s advice, it must publish an alternative plan for addressing climate change in Aotearoa and reaching its targets.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in our online events and engagements so far. You have been invaluable in shaping our work. We look forward to hearing more from you over the coming weeks.
